Performance approach to the album the “Malachite Forest” :
The preparation, performance, and recording of the music of the “Malachite Forest” is an interesting challenge. The musicians of the quartet are like real-time composers who soundtrack a movie, but:
- the film is imaginary and resides in the minds of the performers;
- the script/libretto is available and is the main point of reference... it works like “reverse film scoring” - the music and the script are ready, and the picture will be shot later and adjusted according to the sound;
- the music is not written in detail, and the performers (for the most part) improvise as they interpret the plot.
For the above reasons, the real natural sounds (animals/birds/wind/rain) included in the recording are a literal reflection of the story. They are like “anchors” and fulcrums around which the performers build the storyline through their improvisation. Musicians pay particular attention to the libretto, which is the main “score” that directs their musical language (colors, emotions, feelings, interplay).
